One more chapter...

I realize that the last time I posted anything was almost a  year ago but it's spring break now, I have no homework, no work, and nowhere to travel to so I might as well bring my blog back from the grave for a moment. I haven't been reading much which is mostly why I haven't been back for a while ,but here is a little overview of some of the books I have gotten the chance to read.  In this wrap up I reviewed: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray and Winter by Marissa Meyer. 

Somehow this was my busiest month since September, yet I've read the most books this month. I don't know how that works. The semester ended this month so I had exams and all those last minute projects and tests teachers assign, and I had some weird flu for a week where I spent my time passing out or throwing up. It's been a very distressing start to 2015, let me tell you. This month I reviewed: This Shattered World, Gathering Darkness and, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown.

Overall rating: 100%  First thing's first. Look at the cover. Isn't it amazing? It's even better in person, if you can believe it. If for no other reason go buy the book just to be able to admire the cover.  This book was phenomenal. There is actually nothing that I would change in this book. It was amazing starting from the very first page.  Claudia Gray did a spectacular job. Most of the time science fiction isn't very easily explained, you're left with so many questions and in the end it takes away from the book. Everything was either explained or acknowledged as unexplained. All grounds were covered. The characters were all so intriguing and well developed.The worlds were all so interesting and detailed. The writing was wonderful and witty. If you like reading books where you get to experience different places around the world through the book, this is perfect for you. It's still not going to well for me and my reading goals, guys. This month I reviewed: The Blood of Olympus, In the After Light, and The Retribution of Mara Dyer.

That time of year is among us once again. The horribly tacky lawn decorations, cheesy movies on Disney channel and the anxiety of last minute costume ideas. It's October, aka Halloween month. So here are a few eerie reads that I personally recommend! Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children  So this is the darkest book on thislist in my opinion. There are dead children with freaky abilities, monsters that remind me of the Ood from Doctor Who, and super creepy photographs. So if you want something that will really keep you awake at night this is what I would recommend. It is the first book in a trilogy and it is written by Ransom Riggs! Goodreads link  

Mixed feelings. I'm just so confused. I feel like this book would be fantastic if we had the promise of another spin off series or detailed appearances in the new Magnus Chase series. But neither of those things are guaranteed. Hence the confusion. The book starts with an authors note and of course, Rick teases us. He says that there will be small cliffhangers. Smell the deceit. So many things aren't resolved and it killed me.  But as per usual the story was enjoyable and the characters were hilarious. Some characters got a whole bunch of character development and then others got pushed to the side and forgotten. I still had a ball reading this book and as a whole I really do recommend the series. Much to my surprise I did enjoy it. The aliens have invaded and 97% of the human population is dead. They die in waves. First the aliens cut off the earths electricity and motors. Then there are the floods. And then there is the plague and the "silencers". And so now the people left await the 5th wave. I can't say much without spoiling anything but the story follows a 16 year old girl named Cassie trying to save her little brother. It's fast paced and the writing is fantastic. There are multiple points of view and because all the plots are linked we hear about the same characters from different POV's so it is really enjoyable. I found Cassie to be very entertaining as well. The characters had such diverse personalities so I did have a good time reading it. On to the spoilery section!

All of the stars because Celaena rattles the stars. Spoiler free review Celaena returns bent and broken but damn she made a speedy recovery. We are introduced to new characters and new plots in this installment of the series. It was formidable. All of it. The writing was amazing, the character development was better than ever and the story is beyond words. I highly highly recommend every book in this series. Novellas and everything. I think it's safe to say that this is my favourite series of all time. I love it even more than The Infernal Devices trilogy. I'm so sorry Will but it's the truth. If I go into any detail at all it will spoil you so I'm just going to leave this hoping that you all get the message. 

 These books are really good to read over a longer period of time. I read a few pages every night before going to bed and it was the highlight of my day. I think that if you read it in one sitting you'll get way too annoyed with the characters and then you'll end up hating the book. Sooooo if you have yet to read these books (or if you tried reading them but just couldn't because of  hair pulling and book throwing  all the frustration it caused, I recommend taking on a new approach. Take baby steps. Don't bite off more than you can chew, if you will. Try reading it little by little. No spoilers section (I don't think anyone's reading this seeing as I am the last person on earth to read these books) Daemon earned serious brownie points in this book and Katy didn't even see it. HE BUYS HER A STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE !!! I'd marry him right then and there. I found Katy and Dee's relationship lacking though. They addressed this issue near the end but it ...

These are just mini reviews of the books I've read this month. Be warned they may have minor spoilers!  In this wrap up I reviewed: Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Glitches, The Queen's Army, Four, Rebel Angels, Isla and the Happily Ever After, The Kiss of Deception, The Sweet Far Thing, Obsidian  and Onyx. 

Overall rating: 85%  I'll give you a brief synopsis of the book. Katy moves to West Virginia with her mother three year after her father dies of cancer. Her neighbors consist of Dee and Daemon, the twins. Daemon is moody and controlling and Dee is bubbly and eager to make friends. Katy gets attacked by an old man (he asks her for help with his car and she complies, obviously no one told her not to talk to strangers. Daemon comes to her rescue. He does this a few times (it's kind of creepy but you get passed that he's pretty) and eventually he freezes time. He becomes a giant light bulb too (he doesn't sparkle, he glows.) Then people (well not people) start hunting Daemon trough Katy, Daemon freaks out and commands her to stay close to him. It's very twilight-y. It's cheesy, I know. But it's cheesy in a way that makes you chuckle not cheesy as in hide in a corning and cringe for centuries. I enjoyed it. I feel like the author intended for it to be ch...

A lot of the books I read this month were library books, eBooks or were in my TBR pile. These are just the books I purchased  this moth. I'll be sure to post an "August Reads" later on so be on the lookout for that! Earlier this month I picked up the first two books in The Lunar Chronicles at my local library. I was entranced with the story line, the world and the characters. I fell in love. In two days I finished both books and was eager to read the third. In a crazed trance I hurried to open up the library website to put a hold on Cress. But alas I was the fourth person on the waiting list. With plan A having failed I came up with plan B. Buying the eBook on my laptop. I started reading around 6 PM that day and I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning. It was horrible. My eyes stung, I had a blood test to take at 9 AM the next day and I still hadn't finished the book. After taking the blood test, (with minimal tears!) I rewarded myself with a trip to ...

So 2014 is nearly over and there are still quite a few books coming out before the year is up. Here are the ones I am most anticipating! Heir of Fire is set to be released on September second. I am beyond ecstatic waiting for this book. It is the third book in a six book series by Sarah J Maas. It being the third in the series book I can't give you a description with the risk of spoilers being imminent. Basically the series is about this super badass and hilarious female assassin, Celaena Sardothien. She loves to read and she adores fashion and all things pretty. There are also two main love interests Prince Dorian and Captain of the Guard, Chaol. It's a high fantasy young adult novel and it's one of my absolute favourites. Celaena is funny and kickass and everything else I aspire to be. (Unfortunately blood makes me queasy so I'm just going to continue living my dreams through these books.)
